The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is currently in its second generation. It was introduced for the 2006 model year and was almost immediately given the "Best New Sport Utility Vehicle" award by the Canadian Car of the Year. It shares the W164 platform with the new GL-Class and is a unibody design rather than the older W163 body-on-frame platform used by the first generation of M-Class. The second generation of Mercedes M-Class was redesigned and reintroduced in 2005 with a more sporty design that brought the coefficient of drag down to 0.34 and extended the length 150 mm longer. With the new generation of M-Class you may choose a gasoline, gasoline-electric, or diesel power engine. This means that the M-Class is currently the only SUV on today's market offering all of these choices for just one vehicle.
