The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is currently in its fourth generation which
began production in 2007. It was only available in two models, the
rear-wheel drive CL550 and the CL600. It was later given a few more
models with the CL63, and the CL65 AMG, and in 2009 the CL550 was given
all-wheel drive. For more information on the current models of the
CL-Class you can check out our page here.
The third generation
Mercedes-Benz CL-Class was in production from 2000-2006. It lost a bit
of weight when compared to its predecessor and was far sleeker. Don't
worry, the Mercedes CL-Class lost none of its power as proved by the
CL500 which has a healthy V8 engine with 302 horsepower, as well as the
CL55 AMG (2001) with a powerful V8 engine. With safety as one of its
top priorities, this generation saw the introduction of such
technologies such as PreSafe, Active Body Control, and Distronic
adaptive cruise control. This was also the generation when the CL600
and CL55 AMG were brought to the forefront with both of them offering
403 horsepower.
The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class of the second
generation is only offered with a V8 engine putting out 315 horsepower
and the V12 engine offering 389 horsepower. This generation, though
not as popular as the more recent generations, is still a Mercedes car
with all the durability and reliability behind the name.
The
first generation Mercedes-Benz CL-Class was actually first known as the
SEC and was offered from 1981-1991. These years had either a 5.6 liter
V8 engine with 238 horsepower or a 3.8 liter V8 engine with 155
horsepower. The SEC was actually one of the first vehicles outfitted
with airbags, traction control, antilock brakes, and a self-leveling
suspension. These models are a bit rarer but as always, reliable to
the last.
If you find yourself the lucky owner of a used
Mercedes CL-Class then you can rest easy that your future driving days
are going to be smooth and comfortable.
