Beginning production in 2002, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class or "G-Wagen" was first produced as the G500 with a 5.0 V8 engine with 292 horsepower and 336 pound-feet of torque. It was made to be durable and completely reliable as both an on and off road vehicle. In 2003, the G55 AMG began production and was given a 5.5 liter supercharged V8 engine with 349 horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque which was subsequently upgraded in 2005 with 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
